Xbox Games with Gold October Update: Microsoft’s Free Xbox One, Xbox 360 titles are coming

Xbox One Games with Gold subscribers don’t have long to wait until Microsoft reveals the new free Xbox Games with Gold titles for October.

With the current Games with Gold titles for September only lasting until next Saturday and Microsoft making a habit to announce their new games well in advance of their typical end date, an announcement is likely coming very early next week.

To put it into perspective as well, the latest Microsoft announced their Games with Gold titles was on th 27th of a month, but that coincided with E3. But typically the reveals have fallen on the 24th or 25th of a month.

And whilst Microsoft has sometimes made a habit of accidentally leaking prematurely their new lineup in the days leading up to a Games with Gold reveal, there have been no leaks leading up to the October announcement to suggest which games could be included.

None the less, some sites have some predictions and whilst it’s nice to think about, there’s no solid evidence to back it up.

For instance, Twinfinite has suggested that Xbox gamers could see the inclusion of Life is Strange and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

“Besides being on Deals with Gold in the past, the Life is Strange series has recently released a prequel following the story of Chloe back when first meeting Rachel Amber, who is missing during the events of the main game.

“By providing the change for players who missed the original game to go back and try it out, this might encourage them to go on to purchase the prequel Before the Storm afterwards.”

“Although Life is Strange is also available on Xbox 360, it’s customary for Microsoft to also offer one bigger game for the last generation console specifically as well,” continues Twinfinite.

“For this, it would be interesting to see is Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, since it is one of the only Assassin’s Creed games that hasn’t come to Games with Gold so far.”

As we mentioned though, none of this is guaranteed and it’s likely we’ll find out the official lineup Monday or Tuesday next week, which is likely going to be followed by the PlayStation Plus announcement later in the week.

For those unfamiliar with how Games with Gold works, during every month Xbox Live Gold members will receive four new free games – two on Xbox One and two on Xbox 360.

Typically, Games With Gold titles are available for a period of two weeks each, so it’s worth marking the dates down on your calendar to ensure you don’t miss out.

And don’t forget you can play both Xbox 360 titles on your Xbox One thanks to the console’s backwards compatibility features.

Plus, now that the Xbox One has a dedicated Xbox 360 backwards compatibility store, you can easily search for, find, and download these games should you forget to download them for free during Games with Gold.

Currently, Xbox One owners with an active Xbox Live Gold membership can download three great games for absolutely free.

Throughout September Xbox Live Gold members can download Xbox One release Forza Motorsport 5, which is a nice warm up ahead of the release of Forza Motorsport 7 in October.

In addition, fans can also download ghostly supernatural thriller Oxenfree all the way until October 15th.

Which is great, because even if you don’t play it this month, download it and save it in time for Halloween next month!

Lastly, there’s Battlefield 3 which even today, six years after release, remains one of the best modern-day shooters.
